We are a popular and oversubscribed middle school based in the heart of Gosforth. Our principal aim is to encourage high expectations and high standards of achievement, both academic and personal. Our values embrace honesty, trust, reliability, respect for the legitimate rights of others, care for the weaker members of society, regard for the environment and a kindness towards other people. We believe that a calm, friendly, disciplined atmosphere, in which hard work and co-operation are respected, is the best way to promote these values. At Gosforth Junior High have a dedicated and talented team of teaching and support staff. Together we strive to deliver the best education and support that we possibly can and continue to deliver an outstanding experience for our students. If you feel you too can make a difference in our students' education and want to be part of a successful team – we want to hear from you.
We are seeking a Cover Supervisor to join our support staff team at Gosforth Junior High Academy. You will work closely with our Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisors and other support staff to provide support to students in our school. This will include covering classes in the absence of teachers, supporting individual students, managing student behaviour and assisting students in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and is a creative, ‘hands on’ colleague. You will be empathetic and practical in equal measure, yet firm when needing to challenge student behaviour. Ideally, you will have experience working within a school environment or experience of working with young people in another context.
Primarily, the role will include day to day cover for classes when a teacher is absent as well as supervising our students in isolation/internal exclusion however, it will also sometimes involve some general small group work/intervention for students as directed by the class teacher. Before and after school, the role will entail duties or running clubs for students.
Inspected in November 2023, the school was awarded a ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted citing that we have high ambitions and expectations of our students and that they are exceptionally well behaved. We strongly recommend you read our report, which can be found here.
This is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference within a positive and exciting environment. If you share our community’s ethos of progression, diversity and dynamism then we would be delighted to hear from you.
If you would like to visit our school or have any questions about the role, please email Mrs Tracey Wood, PA to the Principal, at Tracey.Wood@ga.newcastle.sch.uk. Please note that there is not an expectation for you to visit the school before application.
